Urban decay

On my recent walks around Leicester I've become really drawn to the decaying, disused, post-industrial landscapes that dot our cities but that are so easy to ignore.  By photographing it, I've realised what a strange beauty and brightness these graffitied walls and peeling railings add to the environment.

    1. Thanks :) There are some genuinely pretty bits of Leicester that I've photographed before, this time I felt like doing something different.

  2. Great photos. I never really appreciated urban decay before, but in recent years I've realised that it can add a huge amount of character to a city.

    1. Thanks! Leicester has more than its fair share of urban decay, I think if you didn't learn to appreciate it, it would depress the hell out of you!

  3. Brilliant photos. I love taking pictures of urban decay - actually, decay in general - partly because the details can be so striking and even pretty, and partly because I like to catch that moment in time before the buildings are (hopefully) restored.

    1. Thank you :) Some of these photos are of an amazing old mill building next to the canal that's stood empty for years, but that now seems to have some workshops tucked away inside. So nice to see parts of it being used at last.
